Dehydrators
I often get asked what is a good dehydrator to get, but dehydrator features can vary so it’s important to get a model that suits your needs. Some things to consider if you are purchasing your first (or a new) dehydrator:
- Does it have an adjustable thermostat (different foods dehydrate at different temperatures)?
- Is it expandable if you want to dehydrate larger batches?
- How easy is it to get replacement parts, such as more dehydrating trays, mesh screens, or fruit roll sheets?
- Will it sit on your counter and how much space do you have for it?
I purchased my Nesco Gardenmaster Food Dehydrator in 2005 and still use it today. It’s a workhorse and a brand and model I would recommend based on my experience.

Dehydrator Accessories
Accessories are going to be specific to your particular dehydrator model. Here are accessories I have for my Nesco Gardenmaster and would recommend getting comparable items for yours:
- Nesco Mesh Clean-A-Screen: a mesh screen to prevent smaller items from falling through the slats on the dehydrator tray. They also help to keep the dehydrator trays cleaner.
- Fruit Roll Sheets: a solid sheet for making fruit rolls or fruit leathers. They also work for items that will fall through the mesh screens, such as ground beef, rice, or celery.
